Course Objectives

Since history is the collective memory of society, we can gain insights about our present world by studying the past. Upon a satisfactorycompletion of course the student should be able to:

1.  gain an overview of history of the Ancient Near East,

2.  understand the basic techniques and theories of  Near Eastern archaeology,

3.  associate geographical locations with historical significance,

4.  develop skills in analytical thinking, reading and writing, and

5.  relate the history and archaeology of the Ancient Near East to Old Testament studies.
